OLD BRIDGE – A former township mayor, with a track record of dedicated community service, had his name memorialized on Old Bridge Public Library building.

Ex-mayor Arthur M. Haney died in August of 2018. In honor of Haney, the township council adopted a resolution to name the library building in his honor.

The naming ceremony took place on Sept. 22, marking the building’s new name as “Arthur M. Haney Building,” in front of his family, friends, community members, and local officials.

Haney was instrumental in helping develop the library building in 1993. Officials also unveiled a bronze plaque to recognize the building’s new name and Haney. The plaque reads, in part: “… was a dedicated public servant and the driving force behind the construction of the new Old Bridge Public Library building.”

The ceremony had remarks by Library Board President Frank Weber as well as Haney’s son, Sean Haney, and a rendition of “Danny Boy” sung by his daughter, Carolyn J. Haney-Kimock.

There was a posting of the colors by Old Bridge High School ROTC and violinist Alex Yavtuhovich and pianist Elaine R. Gaber performed a musical interlude.
